MY OPEN LETTER TO FRANCIS SCOTT KEY

Dear Dr. Key,

I imagine only a grave keeps you from standing when USA professional athletes refuse to stand during the playing of "The Star Spangled Banner".

As an American, you wrote "conquer we must when our cause it is just." Please forgive the minority of Americans who disrespect your musical tribute to our nation. God has given USA citizens the priviledge of living in a free nation at the cost of many American lives. I respect all symbols of our nation, including the Stars and Stripes and your "National Anthem".

Excluding a rarely published third verse, your "national anchor" reflects the sentiments of most Americans in 2017, and the spangled banner about which you wrote symbolizes our republic in which we live, work and worship.

By the way, if we meet in eternity, please remind me to ask why you wrote verse three.
